Úna McCarthy nominated for Fine Gael vacancy on Cork County Council

Carrigaline-based teacher Úna McCarthy is being nominated to fill a vacancy on Cork County Council.

The nomination is to be put before Fine Gael party members on Sunday evening (22 October 2023). The formal co-option will take place on Monday next (23 October 2023), at a full meeting of Cork County Council.

Úna McCarthy, originally from Rochestown, is a secondary school teacher in St. Peter’s Community School in Passage West, where she teaches business and accounting and serves as an assistant principal.

Úna lives in Carrigaline with her husband and two children, where she is involved in the local community through the residents’ association and coaching duties with Carrigaline GAA club.

Úna thanked Fine Gael party members for the nomination, which she described as a huge honour and privilege.

I am committed to working hard to deliver for our local area and for Fine Gael. Schools are a microcosm of society, and as a teacher I see at first hand the daily impact of many of the issues currently facing our country. As a party, Fine Gael works to find solutions to these issues and make life better for everyone in our communities. As a public representative I will work every day to be part of the solution.”
