Kinsale Rugby club have announced the expansion of their U14 Regional Girls St Brigid’s Day Cup to encompass an U16 girl’s tournament after last year’s event proved very popular.

Known as the Annemarie Kingston Cup, this regional tournament is fast becoming a major moment in the youth girl’s rugby calendar for clubs across Munster.

Taking place on February 3rd, the bank holiday Monday of the Saint Brigid’s weekend, the 2025 event will welcome double the amount of teams from across the province from last year. Over 200 girls are expected to showcase their skills at the Kinsale club’s famous pitches just outside the seaside town.

Kinsale Rugby’s Girls Coordinator Pauline O’Regan remarked, ‘There’s great excitement among their teams. “Our girl’s teams have driven this event so we’re delighted to see so many clubs are eager to attend. Girls’ rugby participation is growing across our province as young women see how the sport is great for fitness, fun and friendship. Our club is proud to support these girls in their sporting ambitions’.

The tournament is named after local woman Annemarie Kingston who sadly passed away in 2019. Annemarie was the wife of the current club president Paul Kingston, and she was a stalwart of the Kinsale Club. The tournament is seen as a great way to honour her legacy.

While entries for the tournament closed for this year, the club says it is looking to expand the event again next year. Any U14 or U16 girl’s teams interested in taking part are welcome to contact the club.

Spectators and supporters will be very welcome to attend the event which will run for most of the day on Monday, February 3rd. Keep an eye on www.kinsalerfc.com for more details of the event.
