The Kinsale Youth Theatre section of Super Stars Stage School are bringing a condensed version of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible to St. Catherine’s Cultural Centre in Kinsale on May 6th and 7th.

Directed by Head of Drama, Maria O’Callaghan, she has brought together an ensemble of local drama students from Carrigaline, Kinsale, Belgooly and Riverstick to bring a shortened version of the play to life.

The Crucible, which is also featured on the Leaving Cert curriculum, is set in Salem during the Salem Witch Trials. It is a dramatised retelling of the trials as an allegory to McCarthyism. It explores themes of propaganda and the consequences of the spread of misinformation.

“It deals with fake news, which is still relevant” explained Maria, who said her students have been working tirelessly to ensure the show is a success.

Miller's original version of the play lasts three hours, but it has been condensed into a sixty minute showing.

The curtain raises at 6:30pm on Tuesday May 6th and Wednesday May 7th. Tickets cost from €10 and are available from St. Catherine’s Cultural Centre, by email superstarsstageschool@gmail.com or by contacting Maria directly on 086 0766956.
