CONNELL & JAMESON
by Nicola Depuis
Who else could we choose for the Halloween edition of The Carrigdhoun but Cork’s own Ghostbusting mini daschunds Connell and Jameson, especially as Jameson turns one year old on Halloween. This dastardly duo recently joined their buddies on the Halloween Howl walk at The Lee Fields to raise funds for animal rescue H.A.R.T. As these two have the stamina of huskies they love their walks and so have been on many adventures with their mother Carol this year including walking parts of the Wild Atlantic Way.
No stranger to dressing up, two-year-old Connell also won the Best Costume Competition at this year’s Cork Summer Show for his version of Captain America i.e. Captain Connell, the costume tailored for him by his mom Carol from a discount shop kids costume. Carol says: ‘They are my best buddies and we do lots of walks and adventures together, plus cuddles on the couch too.
They can do lots of tricks and things that keep their brains sharp. They go to doggy day care and love playing with any size dog. Connell, in particular, loves people and will greet and kiss everyone he can…he’s all about sharing the love. Jameson is still a bit shy but he’s learning to be brave by watching Connell. Jameson is such a sweet loving guy once he gets to know you and his happy wiggly bum and tail is legendary.’ Carol admits her adorable duo are never short of fans. ‘I love the reaction people have when they see them. When I’m in town people stop to say hello to us and kids want to pet them. It’s lovely having chats with all the lovely people and families.
They have their own Instagram (@connellthemighty) and Facebook accounts and we share their adventures there.’ One of the noticeable features of the pooches’ posts is the inclusion of Irish. Carol says: ‘I include Irish in my posts as both a way to share some words and phrases with their 6.5k followers in Ireland and around the world, and for me to revise my own Irish too’. Happy Howlaween everyone!
