New scam targeting small local businesses

The Carrigdhoun has become aware of a new variety of scams targeting small enterprises in the run up to Christmas, and are urging people to be vigilant.

The scammers are posing as market fair organisers and are posting on social media platforms and are attempting to infiltrate local community groups.

The scammers have somehow acquired the names of popular market locations in the area and have posted these locations, dates and times and are inviting stall holders to apply at a fee.

Suspicions about these fake fairs arose when a local business owner was added to a Whastapp group by a number from outside the EU, and under further investigation the market was found to be a hoax.

The Carrigdhoun are appealing to any potential local Christmas Markets organisers to contact us and we will spread the word in an attempt to combat any fraudulent markets and fairs. Please e-mail info@carrigdhoun.com for more information.
