A pedestrian crossing between the car park for the Marian Hall and the Fairy Green in Ballinhassig was requested by an cathaoirleach Cllr. Ben Dalton-O’Sullivan (Ind) in a motion at the monthly meeting of the county council’s Carrigaline Municipal District (MD).

He added that the local village association was pressing hard for this and believed there might be some national funding available for this. In a report, acting senior executive engineer Alan Cogan said the request had been referred to the council’s Regional and Local Roads Office which was assessing options at the location. He added that some design work had already been done but extra survey work was needed. Cllr. Audrey Buckley (FF) seconded.

At a previous meeting, Cllr. Una McCarthy (FG) called for the existing pedestrian crossing on the main R613 in the village between the GAA Club and Post Office/Shop to be raised in order to slow through traffic.

Cllr. Dalton-O’Sullivan called for Killanully Road near Killingley graveyard, Ballygarvan to be added to the next MD resurfacing programme and repair of the road at Ballinvreesig, Ballygarvan near Stonecraft and Paving. Cllr. Jack White (FG) seconded.

The engineer replied that the programme was currently being decided and it would be considered. Once all routes had been identified and agreed, these would be disseminated to councillors.

Another motion from Cllr. Dalton-O’Sullivan requested repairs to the wall between the old and new sections of Killingley graveyard which recently fell. He thanked the area office for laying new paths there.

In a report, MD officer Denise Kidney said this would be examined in detail with a view to drafting a business case to address the issue.

Cllr Dalton-O’Sullivan requested ‘slow’ and ‘5kph’ road markings in Waterfall village.

All councillors paid tribute to the area office staff and road crews for their outstanding work tackling icy roads and flooding during recent bad weather.
