Man rescued after falling from boat in Crosshaven

A rescue operation took place on Sunday evening at the Hugh Coveney Pier in Crosshaven when a man fell overboard from a commercial vessel.

The alarm was raised at around 9.40pm and several emergency services responded, including Crosshaven RNLI, the Crosshaven Coast Guard and National Ambulance Service paramedics.

One of the first crew to arrive at the station was Kline Pennefather who heard a call to help from the pier manager, Kieran Coniry who was aboard the commercial vessel along with two Portuguese fishermen from another vessel trying to retrieve the casualty from in between the vessels.

Kieran Coniry managed to get a rope around the casualty and as other lifeboat crew and the Coast Guard arrived they managed to hoist him aboard.

He was taken into the wheelhouse where Kline administered casualty care until the paramedics arrived.

The lifeboat conveyed two paramedics the short distance to the vessel where he was checked over and declared well.

Great teamwork was displayed from the RNLI, Coast Guard, Pier staff, Fire service and the Ambulance service. There were 46 people involved in this rescue.
