Let’s make this Halloween both spooky and sustainable!

The Toy Library is launching their Halloween campaign this October in an effort to promote sustainability this spooky season.

On October 13th, The Toy Library will be setting up in Fitzgerald’s Park in Cork City for an exciting Halloween Dress and Decoration Swap Day.

The sustainability-focused event will offer three options for people to celebrate Halloween in a more cost-friendly and environmentally-conscious way.

You can bring your gently-used costumes and find new ones for both kids and adults in a costume swap. From witches to superheroes, there will be a variety of sizes and styles to suit every evil alter-ego.

If your old spooky décor just isn’t giving you that spine-chilling sensation, consider swapping your Halloween props and decorations for something new to spruce up your haunted house.

Or, if you’re devoted to a particular costume that may need a little bit of TLC, you can bring it with you to the Repair Café, where volunteers will help you to give it a new lease of life.

Whether you have costumes to donate or just want to come pick out something new, everyone is welcome. This event is your chance to trade last year’s Halloween costumes and decorations for something fresh and fun – all while reducing waste and saving money.

Launched in June 2024 by founder Giorgia Anile, The Toy Library’s mission involves creating a circular toy economy to prevent waste, foster community engagement, and provide budget-friendly alternatives to buying new.

Faced with discarded devil horns and witches hats, piles of shiny sweet wrappers, and sticky drizzles of fake blood coating every surface, the aftermath of Halloween night can be scary enough without a frightening back balance to confront the following morning.

This Halloween, save yourself the stress of shelling out on last-minute costumes and decorations, and consider donating, swapping, or repairing your pre-loved Halloween accessories and share in the spooky atmosphere in Fitzgerald Park from 10am to 2pm on October 13th.
