The Irish Sepsis Foundation is the latest winner of the Cork International Hotel Community Spirit Awards.
The non-profit charity was founded and launched in September 2022 by Cork barrister, Doireann O'Mahony. Its core mission is a commitment to reducing the impact of sepsis on individuals and their families.
Doireann O’Mahony specialises in medical negligence litigation and decided to set up the charity having witnessed the devastation caused by sepsis through her cases on behalf of injured and bereaved clients.
The organisation was established with a passion for saving lives and improving outcomes while working continuously to educate the public, healthcare professionals, and policymakers about the critical importance of early recognition and prompt intervention in sepsis cases.
Through awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and support programs, the charity aims to empower individuals to recognize the signs of sepsis, seek timely medical attention, and become active partners in their healthcare journey. Additionally, they engage with healthcare professionals to enhance their understanding of sepsis protocols, ultimately improving patient outcomes across the country.
General Manager of the Cork International Hotel, Eoghan Murphy said: “I sincerely congratulate Doireann and the entire team at the Irish Sepsis Foundation on their award for their hard work and dedication to the charity. They are working hard to help in various areas around Sepsis which can have such devastating effects. I wish Doireann and the team the very best of luck in the future.”
