EXCLUSIVE: Dacent Munch & Gatts will be a new dining experience in Carrigaline

Dacent Munch announced last week that they would be opening their new restaurant “Dacent Munch & Gatts” in Carrigaline. Tara Maher caught up with owner Liam Horgan who spilled all the sca on the new business venture.

Liam, alongside his brother Ciarn, first opened in 2020 as a mobile food truck and within a year secured a permanent location in Mayfield shopping centre. Over the last four years, the brothers and their beloved burgers, that pay homage to the Rebel county with their humorous names, have built a cult following attracting customers from all over the city and county.

Their latest business venture, ‘Dacent Munch & Gatts’  is their first foray into restaurant -dining, as they aim to bring something new to Carrigaline. Expanding into a full menu, late bar and weekly entertainment, Liam explained “It will be a lot more than just another chipper (in Carrigaline).”

All going well they hope to open on Monday 11th of November, and provide customers with a lunch and dinner menu, serving food until roughly 9pm.

Liam revealed that they have been actively looking into opening the third instalment of the franchise for the last two years. The brothers had also considered Middleton and Ballincollig but the vast population and the Main Street location gave Carrigaline the honours.

“We’ve seen an awful lot of people travel to the northside for us and when we took a walk through and saw that this was free, it was then we saw the vision.”

While they will be bringing their much adored burgers south of the river and into uncharted territory, a new full menu will also be offered, Liam is particularly excited about their birria tacos.

Building on their well-established take-away empire in the Northside, ‘Dacent Munch & Gatts’ are looking to “bring people back out” and revitalise pub culture in Cork.

With the imminent silly season approaching, they expect to have a busy opening period. Once the dust settles, the plan is to have music on the weekends from Thursday to Monday, and all going well they hope to incorporate theme nights.

“Monday club does well in the city so I’d like to bring something like that down here with theme nights. I know from working shift work myself that not everyone can go out over the weekend, so we want to appeal to everyone”.

Liam and Ciarn are avowed proud Corkonians and celebrating local is paramount to their brand. They hope to provide a glorious marriage of Northside and Carrigaline cuisine and refreshments, and have already been in contact with local suppliers including the award-winning Good Fish Company.
