The Crosshaven Youth Club, a once-thriving hub of activity and camaraderie for the young people of Crosshaven, is on the brink of a much-anticipated revival. After a period of closure, the club is gearing up to reopen its doors later this year, thanks to the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers and the generosity of the local community.
To facilitate the reopening, the club has embarked on a major fundraising campaign. The initial phase of the revitalisation project has been made possible by a €4,500 grant received last year. These funds have been allocated to essential upgrades and improvements to the building, including obtaining fire certification to ensure the safety of its future patrons, enhancing accessibility to make the club welcoming to all, and repainting the interior and exterior to create a vibrant and inviting atmosphere.
At the helm of this ambitious project are three dedicated volunteers who have selflessly taken on the responsibility of spearheading the club's revival. Garda Stephen Cleary, Noel Condon, and Patsy Fegan have been instrumental in driving the project forward.
While the grant has provided a solid foundation, the club requires additional funding to complete the necessary work and ensure a successful reopening. An estimated €6,000 is still needed to cover the remaining costs. To bridge this funding gap, the club has launched a GoFundMe campaign, appealing to the community for their support.

The response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive. Local tradespeople, recognising the importance of the youth club and its potential impact on the community, have rallied behind the project, offering their skills and resources. Stephen Kiely from Haven Electrical has generously provided his expertise, while Jack Kent has donated paint, and Curly O'Keeffe, has volunteered his time and skills to complete the fencing.
In its heyday, the Crosshaven Youth Club played a vital role in the lives of countless young people. It provided a safe and inclusive space where they could socialise, engage in recreational activities, and develop valuable life skills. For those who may not have been interested in sports, the youth club offered an alternative avenue for recreation and personal growth.
With the population of Crosshaven and the surrounding areas having grown significantly in recent years, the need for a dedicated youth club is more pressing than ever. The reopening of the Crosshaven Youth Club would undoubtedly be a positive development for the community, providing a valuable resource for young people and fostering a sense of belonging and community spirit.
Local councillor Jack White has expressed his support for the project, recognising the importance of investing in the youth of Crosshaven. He acknowledges the impact of the initial grant from Cork County Council and urges the community to rally behind the GoFundMe campaign. He emphasises that not all children find an outlet in sports and highlights the significance of the youth club as a valuable resource for those who may not have other options for recreation and social interaction. He commends the volunteers for their dedication and hard work, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the project.
