It was a time to remember recently for Carrigaline lady Marie McCarthy as she came second in Aldi’s National Brown Bread Baking Competition.
Marie, who entered the competition this year in memory of her grandmother, won her regional heat to get through to the semi-finals. From here, she would bake in front of a live audience in the Aldi Marquee at the National Ploughing Championships in Fenagh, Co. Carlow.
Marie was up against 3 other worthy Aldi semi-finalists along with 4 ICA opponents. She won her semi-final & baked again in the live finals on Thursday 19th September against 3 others finalists from around the country. Marie took home 2nd prize and hopes to enter again next year. It’s been a busy couple of months for Marie as herself and husband David recently welcomed their 1st baby girl Mila into the world, and Mila aged just 5 weeks supported Mum on both days at the Ploughing and garnered lots of attention as possibly the youngest visitor to the Championships this year, and even had time to pose for a quick pic with Micheál Martin TD!
