Carrigaline 2-20
St Finbarrs 1-16
Carrigaline hurlers completed a unique double for the club as they added another league title to the footballer's success as they defeated St Finbarrs in the RedFM Hurling League Division 2 final on Thursday in Pairc Ui Rinn.
While goals from Kevin O'Reilly on 43 and 46 minutes ended this game as a contest, Carrigaline had their ace corner forward, Brian Kelleher to thank for their victory, with a stunning tally of 15 points, 9 from the dead ball.
Playing catch up for much of the game, it was the city side who opened the scoring in the first minute as Jack Cahalane opened his side's account.
Brian Kelleher signalled his early intent with a free before Sam Cunningham fired over.
Two unanswered points from Kelleher had Carrigaline in front, as William Buckley evened the score on eight minutes.
With an obvious intent to put it up to their senior opponents, the Carrigdhoun side hit four unanswered points, three from Kelleher and a single effort from David Griffin to leave the score at 8 to 3 on 15 minutes.
Cahalane and Kelleher then swapped points before Carrigaline's net minder Robert Foster saved well from Jack O'Kelly on 20 minutes.
Two more Kelleher white flags had Buckley and Cahalane replying with a point each.
From there to the interval the Barrs made an effort to reel in their opponents with points from Cahalane, Cunningham and John Wigginton Barrett, as the margin was down to 0-11 to 0-9 at half-time.
The opening ten minutes of the second half was owned by the South County outfit as they opened a 0-16 to 0-10 lead, with scores from Kelleher, Reilly and Eanna Desmond to a single reply from Jack Cahalane.
Kelleher should have found the net on 38 minutes, with a pass from Desmond but the effort was off target.
The Togher men were trying to fight their way back into the contest, but Foster was equal to a Ciaran Doolan goal effort.
Jack O' Kelly and Buckley points had the deficit down to 0-16 to 0- 12 on 42 minutes before O'Reilly's brace of goals put daylight between the sides.
Second half substitute Finn O' Connell then hit his first of two points as Kelleher increased his own tally, as Eoghan Finn had two points in the middle of the Carrigaline brace.
A Buckley free on 51 minutes brought a flurry of activity in front of the Carrig goal, but it was another five minutes before Jack Cahalane was rewarded with a goal in another attack.
Despite another goal effort from the City men Foster was proving almost unbeatable, Carrigaline finished the night with points from Finn and not surprisingly the outstanding Kelleher to complete a famous double.
