Beatlemania to hit Kinsale later this month

Over 60 years on, the music and story of the Fab Four continues to inspire, delight and intruige. And where could be better to celebrate The Beatles than the beautiful town of Kinsale.

The first ever Beatles Festival in Ireland is taking place in Kinsale from the 31st of January to the 2nd of February.

The festival, sponsored by Bulmers, promises to be a magical weekend full of music, and nostalgia.

Over the weekend Kinsale will transform into a Beatles wonderland, with live bands, themed events, and some interesting Beatles-inspired activities.

Munster String Quartet will kick off the festivities with preforming the much loved Beatles feelings at St Catherine’s Cultural Centre on Friday, January 31st.

On the Saturday, Paul Muldoon chats to Dave Fanning at The Blue Haven for a fascinating deep dive on his work with Paul McCartney on The Lyrics 1956-Present. Later at 9.30pm, the ultimate Beatles tribute show takes the stage for a night filled with classic hits at The White Lady.

A host of speakers will appear at various venues around Kinsale throughout the weekend, including Paul Muldoon, Peter Doggett, Dr. Holly Tessler, Jane Hayward, Anna Tharia and Deirdre Kelly.

Speaking about the inaugural festival, Steven Cockcroft says: “60 years on, and there's as much interest as ever in The Beatles. We're delighted to be part of this festival. Where better than Kinsale for a Beatles Festival of international quality?”

Saturday, February 1st, highlights include a 1965 Reeling in The Years style walking tour, talks on Abbey Road and the fascinating story of Dorinish Island, the Mayo Island purchased by John Lennon in 1968.
