Ballinhassig power past Carrigaline

Ballinhassig 1-17 Carrigaline 0-13

(JJ Hurley)

Ballinhassig simply blew a brave Carrigaline effort away in the final ten minutes of the Rebel Og Mid Division 1 Hurling final at MTU on Friday night.

In what had been an enjoyable game of hurling, with Eoghan Madden and Oisin O'Connell giving master classes in free taking. It was Madden's goal on 48 minutes that proved decisive

An entertaining first half had Carrigaline taking an early lead as Oisin O'Connell and Jack Connolly had early scores.

Ballinhassig's opener came from Eoghan Madden with a 65, as he hit two on the trot.

Ballinhassig were beginning to settle as both sides were guilty of some wayward shooting.

By the 20th minute the sides were level thanks to two scores from Oisin Lynch and Jack Griffin for the blues.

Taking something of a grip on this clash, Ballinhassig hit three in a row from Madden and Patrick O Regan as they led by seven to five on 25 minutes.

Carrigaline came back into the contest as O'Connell sent over two frees to leave the score at 0-7 to 0-7 at the break.

It was Carrigaline who started better in the second half as  Cork minor, O'Connell, landed a free and 65.

Ballinhassig hit back with a fine score from Jack Griffin, but Carrigaline were in no mood to surrender the lead as two points from Oisin O'Connell had them putting distance between the sides

However, Ballinhassig had no intention of going away as three  consecutive points from Madden as he continued to prove deadly on the placed balls.

A point proven on 48 minutes when he goaled from a free to leave the score at 1-11 to 0-12

Despite another O’Connell point, it was fast becoming the Madden and O'Shea show as Charlie O'Donovan had a cameo role, as he saved from O'Connell.

For the remaining minutes it was all one-way traffic as Ballinhassig pushed on, and deservedly it was Madden who had the last score to cap off a tremendous performance as team captain.
